444 Club present Guile + Mr Derry + Dogfight Revolution + The Fun House Robots

GUILE

Formed in their hometown of Cannock, Staffordshire – ‘Guile’ take their name from the noun of witchcraft etymology; referring cunning devices, mischievous deceit, shrewdness or intelligent
manifested astuteness.

Holed up in a once booming but now defunct mining complex, a tireless work ethic has enabled the band to evolve a brand of psychedelic blues narcotica, that’s all their own.

Fusing the psychedelic influences of ‘the Velvet Underground', ‘the 13th floor elevators’ and ‘the Doors, the scuzzier elements of ‘the Jesus and Mary Chain’, the country and folk styling of ‘Johnny Cash’ through to ‘Robert Johnson’ and a blues rooted soulfulness reminiscent of ‘Muddy Waters’, ‘Chuck Berry’ and sometimes even gospel artists such as ‘the Staple Singers’… ‘Guile’s’ twisted, swaggering, wall of white noise is a unique proposition.

The four piece have adopted a retrospective gigging ethos; one that’s particularly refreshing in this cyber age. The band have already covered the UK on three massive independent tours and a one off debut European date early in 2008. It’s easy to forget that at the time of writing the band are just 18 months old as a gigging ensemble.

This no nonsense approach to getting out on the road is continually helping to build the band a loyal fan base. Ask anybody who was trying but couldn’t get into the Castle gig in December, they’ll tell you that ‘Guile’ are no longer just a shadowy secret.

‘Spacemen 3’ were at one such ‘caboose of a train’ gig and went on to publicly praise the band. ‘Guile’ have also gone on to share a stage with some formidable names and were invited onto the 'Howling Bells' Little Civic show, one of only two sell out shows on the Australians tour. Guile have also enjoyed supporting ‘the Boxer Rebellion’, ‘the Departure’, ‘We are Scientists’ and ‘Amusement Parks on Fire’ to name a few.

The independent promotional release of ‘Love Around Here’ picked up radio and press attention from BBC 6 Music, XFM, BBC WM, Revolution Radio, Kerrang, Sandman Magazine, Penny Black Music, Room 13, Clash Magazine among others as well as numerous online blogs.

Despite media attention the band are more determined than ever to push their dynamic psychedelic, alternative blues to the next level. From within the industrial walls of Cannock, Guile are a creative uprising poised to take you with them …

DOGFIGHT REVOLUTION

Under a year ago ‘Dogfight Revolution’ emerged onto the Midlands music scene to project their spiralling drone rock sound onto a backdrop of eastern mystics and psychedelic influence. The four piece’s sound has evolved from a fusion of influences [Syd Barrett, Velvet Underground, Primal Scream, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, 13th Floor Elevators, Jesus & Mary Chain, Verve] that have laid the foundation on which they have built their revolutionary sound. Guitars, drums and bass are joined by drone machine, theremin, synth, Indian percussion and flute. With lyrics that make a statement and a commitment to stamping a distinctive mark on today’s music scene by opening the door to a new territory, the DFR are ready to convert you…

THE FUN HOUSE ROBOTS

The Funhouse Robots want to entertain. The Funhouse Robots play short (most of the time), catchy rock n roll punk songs, about a world of sci-fi glam, along with several truly unique and disturbingly inspirational covers. Any deep meaning to their lyrics is entirely accidental. Their secret is not to ruin a good song by trampling it to death with their egos. Performances are exhausting for the band, but exhilarating for the audience! Well, worth going to see at the least. Their biggest accolade is being the band that other bands want to be (or at least that’s what they tell them)! A bit of history; the band rose as the phoenix from the ashes and embers of Fantastics, a quite similar rock n roll space punk band who played in the Birmingham area a few years ago. Mark (vocals and guitar) and George (bass) spent several years attempting to form a new band after the demise of Fantastics, before finally putting up a scrap of paper towards the end of 2006 in a local studio requesting musicians. They had toyed with the idea of putting a request on the web, but wisely realised this would only delay their efforts by at least another couple of years. They soon had a response from Chris the drummer. Very fortuitously, Chris knew all of The Fun House Robots’ material, as they would be playing the same stuff that Fantastics used to play, and Chris was Fantastics old drummer. Chris’s contact was soon followed up by a call from new boy, Nigel (guitarist), who liked the CD he was sent more than just a little bit, thus injecting the new band with the enthusiasm needed to make it happen. With the players in place, let the performances begin.
