The Autumn Store presents Andersens + The Starlets + Bavarian Country Singers and Comrades.

From Andersens myspace:
‘Andersens were formed in 2000 by three students from the same high school, Kiyokazu Onozaki, Shinsuke Ouchi and Daisuke Kobayashi. Live, they create an inspired, often improvised sound-ceremony, blending crazed psychedelia with a wistful pop sensibility. After Andersens released their debut EP in 2002, singer/flutist Yoshiko Iguchi joined the band and added a more delicate atmosphere to the many-layered drones heard on their debut album Between Static and Fire. After Daisuke Kobayashi left the band in 2004 to pursue a career in agriculture, the band began to have a floating lineup, sometimes swelling to more than ten people, with instrumentation including esraji, trombone, saxophone, Indian percussion, synthesizer and lap top. In 2005, band leader Kiyokazu Onozaki started his own label Bye Bye Blackbird to release Andersens works.’

From The Starlets myspace:
‘If you really want to know.... Once apon a time, singer Biff Smith's sister Gill attended The Glasgow School of Art where drummer Craig Laurie was working. Gill mentioned Craig's name to Biff who was trying unsuccessfully to get a band together and they met up for a rehearsal. On the day of the rehearsal Craig had been to a football match and was slightly the worse for wear after having "a few". He entered the practice room, sat behind the drum kit and fell backwards off the drum stool. It was love at first sight.

Over the next year or two, other members came and went until The Starlets finally settled on their first team of Biff Smith - voice, Mark McSwiggan - Guitars, Stephen McGourty - Bass, Craig Laurie - Drums, Nigel Baillie - Brass, and Iain White - Strings, in time to deliver their debut album "Surely tomorrow you'll feel blue" (2001). Inspired in part by alternative guitar pop and old string-laden movie soundtracks, it was a lush poetic album which, despite being utterly out of step with prevailing musical trends, gained critical acclaim, winning "Jockrock album of the year", was included in "Is this Music" top 100 albums by Scottish artists, and found an audience for the band beyond their home town of Glasgow. This continued with the release of the second album "Further into night forever" (2003) which was again a critical success and brought the band to the attention of the Japanese label Muzak which licensed the record for Japan and helped promote The Starlets' first ever live performances in Tokyo.

The new album has now been completed. Release dates and live shows in the UK and Japan are being announced.’

From the Bavarian Country Singers and Comrades myspace:
‘After a particularly excessive night at the bierkeller, Pandeh, Beckles and Comrades stumbled drunkenly upon the unfortunate idea to transcribe their picaresque adventures into song form.

By mere fluke, their first gig, performed under the short-lived name of 'Beautiful Confusion', was in support of Azure Ray at The Jug of Ale in Moseley, Birmingham. BCSaC can remember very little about the night in question, although it was Friday 13th February 2004... Make of that what you will!

Exciting things appear to be afoot, and they are indubitably going to proceed at a glacial pace.’
