The Go! Club present Rampton Release Date + Fevered Ego’s
Fevered Egos: are a band from Birmingham, England, consisting of Paul Vernon: song-writing/singing genius, Paul Beauchamp: drummer extraordinaire and Cris aka Skip aka Todspawn: professor of all things bassy
In the early days they started of as a punk rock band...('Captain Fantastic and his Performing Monkeys' Paul Vernon, Paul Beauchamp and Josh Swift) but this was decided to be A BAD THING so after some mild disagreements (and much clashing of egos) Josh Swift left the band leaving Paul and Paul to fend for themselves. Fortunately this harsh reality awakened some kind of semi-demi-hemi god from within Paul Vernon (which in time has grown into a fully fledge GOD) and he created several masterpieces including 'Wrecked/Denouement' and the ingeniously named 'The Road to El-Dorado Contains No Llamas: Part 1'. It was around this time that the band renamed themselves Fevered Egos: (inspired by Bill Hicks) and began to quest for a bassist.
The First bassist they chanced upon was one Lucy Hayes, who could actually play the bass...which was good. At this time the band also found themselves a producer, Chris Porter. Sadly these partnerships where brief. After discovering Lucy was more interested in actually paying attention in college and going somewhere in life as apposed to playing in a rock/grunge band, the band (Paul & Paul), had to let her go. The end of the bands relationship with their producer on the other end was a little more messy...
After successfully recording 'Freedom and the Boy' (the bands first song) with the aforementioned Chris, the band began to fall upon hard times financially...which did not stop them recording (or paying for recording) but did make some issues between Chris and The Band. This was resolved by Chris avoiding the band completely and when forced into contact hiding behind a barrage of excuses. The end was result was the death of one of the bands punk songs 'Anthem of Lost Responsibility'. (Which Paul Vernon insists is a Good Thing)
The next most notable point in the bands life was the discovery of the bassist Dave Yardley. After auditioning him in the common room the band decided he was the man for the job...as he could hit the strings really fast...hmm. When actually bought to a practice Paul & Paul felt The Doubt start to grow. Nevertheless they gave Dave a chance and decided he was ready for the nationally acclaimed 'GenFest'.
He wasn’t!
Dave got incredibly drunk and performed a cardinal sin. He removed the mic from Paul Vernon... This just wasn’t on and he was promptly dropped from the band. Sadly this was a bad omen for the months to come as The Band failed to find a bassist.
Just when they had almost given up hope, they where introduced to Emily by the only fan of 'Anthem of Lost Responsibility', the beautifully dreadlocked Sophie. Things where looking up. With new bassist in tow Paul & Paul begin to look for some decent gigs. Twas on the way back from town that the following (mildly legendary) conversation occurred
Paul: Hmm...
Paul: Hmm
Paul: Yeh...gigsgigs....
Paul: Ooh look epic
Paul: We could play epic...
*PAUSE*
Paul: WE COULD PLAY EPIC!
*Dives off the bus towards the grotty skatepark*
Although RawkFest (The 'epic' gig) itself went ok Beauchamp came across some financial disagreements with Keith about drinks bought and security....which resolved by The Band making no profit whatsoever and Beauchamp being personally making a loss of approx £62.78 This was mildly offset by the increase of fans and the discovery of Sinsemilla, who at the the time were a grungey three peice who's bassist would pop up again in the Fevered Egos: story...
After another mild depression period the band was joined by the wonderfully talented Mr Ingle, who seemed to be the missing ingredient the band had been subconsciously yearning after. Sadly Ingle was not able to play the small gathering that was 'Nickenbury', but it did bring about some rare acoustic recordings of Coffee and Cigarettes, Wrecked/Denouement and A Safe Place. At this time, thanks to Ingle, Coffee and Cigarettes evolved into the electric beauty it is today.
Sadly at the start of 2008, due to attendance problems, the band had to find themselves a session bassist. Fortunately they found the legendary Todspawn (aka Skip, aka Cris) had finally overcome his battle with the great evil that is glandular fever, and had become dissatisfied with his role in Sinsemilla, thusly he was persuaded to come jam. It was love at first strum, and the band decided to make the (extremely painful, heart-wrenching) decision to replace Emily with THE SON OF TOD (Only one letter away from being the true messiah) Cris then made the equally heart-wrenching decision to leave Sinsemilla, and so became a permanent and dedicated member of Fevered Egos:.
With Todspawn in tow The Band started to slam their way into the live music scene starting with The Hibernian. This was followed by a small (but profitable) slot at The Newt, which in turn was followed by the IMMENSE Bar Academy gig at which the audience experienced a delicate blend of music and arse.
Thus sadly exams beckoned and all the band members had to get their heads down for some hardcore studying...ok well Tall Paul did anyway. (FOURTEEN FUCKING EXAMS?! HOW CAN THEY DO THAT TO US?!!!) But once the hellish ordeal was out of the way the band started to get revved up for their next Bar Academy slot...
Which was quite frankly, amaxing (amazing to the max). With an ingenious line up of 'bangin' new tunes, a smattering of old favourites and even a really really old classic revamped, Fevered Egos: rocked the joint. But if you are so dozy that you managed to miss this gig then not to worry, we’ll have a show for you soon.
So all that remains for me to say in regards to the gig is....in the words of Terry Pratchett "Be their or be a rectangular thyng". Or, as Trent Reznor once said to me "Who the fuck are you and what are you doing in my house?!".
Beauchamp (with a little help from the band)
The Band has recently discovered it has the technology to crudely record its own material, and create its own animations. The first of these animations is the currently unfinished 'Fall of The Psychonaut'. Even more recently, The Band entered the studio and successfully recorded the EP "Interval Music" featuring 4 tracks of musical ecstasy, all of which are available to listen to on this very site and available in disc form from any member of The Band.
