Coldrice present Heavy Trash (Jon Spencer + Matt Verta-Ray) + Powersolo +Rob K & Uncle Butcher are The Jam Messengers + Guest DJ’s Lady Bambi & Witchell

Heavy Trash:
Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray are... Heavy Trash! On stage and in the studio, Jon Spencer, has destroyed and rebuilt American roots music with such ferocity and wild abandon it is hard to believe that there is anything left. The trail of musical destruction in the wake of his groovy hate-fuck combo Pussy Galore still smolders with the stench of avant punk trash and nasty garage ooze and grind, while his towering work with the Jon Spencer Blues explosion remains an indelible totem to his enormous mojo spirit and red-hot power of deliverance. He is Daddy Boss Hog! He is the Blues Exploder and Microphone Destroyer! A Gibson Brother! The man who shared a Chicken Dog with Rufus Thomas, got Soul with R.L. Burnside, and enjoyed a greasy Lap Dance with Andre Williams! He is The Man Who Loved too Much!!! And while the Blues Explosion is on a rock'n'roll holiday, Jon has not rested! He has not worked on his tan, he has not read the latest summer blockbuster!! NO!! Jon Spencer has chosen the righteous path, and got Way Out with his pal Matt Verta-Ray and the Heavy Trash!!! Matt Verta-Ray grew up in the loving arms of left wing parents who would take him to folk and blues shows long before he sprouted sideburns. (His mother passed away in the '90s, still angry that Dylan had gone electric, despite the fact - Matt is quick to point out - that she owned tons of Sun rockabilly 78s, which he very gratefully still has.) In the late '70s, young Matt found himself one of only twelve people who went to see Bo Diddley at a Canadian fairground. After the show, Bo came out and preached to Matt for an hour about the dark secrets of rock'n'roll. And the rest, as they say, is history - from sitting on the edge of the stage with Bo, to thumping bass for Madder Rose, and then onto his hard-wired decontructionist rootsabilly band Speedball Baby, where he developed his slashing-dagger guitar style - to forming Heavy Trash with his friend Jon Spencer. Matt is also the mad scientist behind the jungle of tube amps and old-school echo machines that form the mutated nucleus of his analog cave, world-class recording studio NY Hed, where musicians come from all over the galaxy to get... Way Out!!!

Powersolo;
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF when you hear the name "PowerSolo"? 'Round Denmark way, the moniker apparently conjures the trash-rock legacy of Hasil Adkins, the Cramps, André Williams and Southern Culture on the Skids. Powersolo may be a power trio, but in this case, the prog-metal acrobatics of rush are replaced with something they call "donkey punk." Two tremolo-loving chicken-scratch, rail-thin guitarists Kim Kix and Atomic Child. And drummer J.C. Benz playing his trade on just a snare, bass drum, and floor tom. It would've been good enough had PowerSolo hailed from the Land of NASCAR. But the fact that this exercise in B-movie punk-a-billy is coming from Aarhus, Denmark, adds plenty of delicious cognitive dissonance. "The next song goes out to Grandma. It's called "Stupid Little Bitch!""

This week Ragtime Sam + Open Mic

Sam Redmore:

Sam Moore (AKA Ragtime Sam) is a English solo acoustic artist well practiced in a vast range of traditional and contemporary idioms. His influences draw heavily from the music of the 1920’s and 30’s in the Southern States of America. Sam has amassed a large repertoire of Ragtime and Delta Blues music from this period. The influence of such musicians as the Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Blake and Ry Cooder have remainded the backbone of Sam’s sound, also drawing on more contempary artists such as Bob Brozman and Cassandra Wilson. Sam has attempted to add his own modern spin on the way that blues and ragtime is played whilst maintaining a strong link with the musics roots. In addition to this Sam is also a skilled Flamenco guitarist with a Meticulous skill in playing in the 'Rumba', 'Bulerias', 'Solea', 'Malaguena' and 'Romance' stiles of this music. Sam is known for his passionate, heartfelt and eclectic live performances. Donning a full suit and sporting a trilby hat (a style reminiscent of Robert Johnson) Sam has been busy gigging throughout the UK as well as international performances in New York City, Chicago, Memphis and New Orleans (USA tour 2008) and in Paris (France tour 2007) since embarking on a solo career in early 2007.
In February 2008 Sam completed recording his debut album 'Reaching for the Blues' featuring eleven tracks that capture the essence of his music. The CD is now available on request from the Mostly Toast Productions Home page and will soon be downloadable from iTunes. As with his live performance the album demonstrates a wide range of styles and techniques and is a exciting blend of different examples of Ragtime and Blues. Featuring instrumentals and songs from such performers as Sam McGee and Blind Willi Johnson as well as a vast array of original compositions.
