Venue 1 The Hare and Hounds

Dirty Laundry presents The Lines + Lady Rain + their clubnight.
Fresh new indie, modern electro and a few classics (check out the list on their myspace)

The Lines:

Comparisons have been made to many a great bands of the past, most notably the sonic guitar histrionics of The Verve, but with influences stretched from Radiohead to The Rapture, The Lines deliver their songs with masses of energy and depth. It’s the amazing single-minded belief, coupled with an explosive live sound and songs with timeless melodies, that point to Alex, Chris, Dean & Ryan being destined for big things in 2008.

News of sold out local shows quickly spread to promoters up and down the country, and invitations came to support artists such as The Twang, The Charlatans, Editors, Jack Penate, The Holloways, Babyshambles, Little Man Tate and The Maccabees to name just a few.

Mosco:Disco with DJ’s Lucie, Jack Slack & Andreas

From their myspace:

‘Mosco Disco was created by Leanne, Lucie & Chloe in August 2003. Leanne liked messing around with vintage clothing and cut+paste, Lucie liked tinkering with vinyl and Chloe enjoyed baking and random bouts of unconsciousness. So we celebrated our little trio by launching a web-site and decorating the bond-cave (Red bar & lounge) with vintage clothing and cakes, calling it MOSCO DISCO PIPPADEE PARTY. Since then we have borrowed the creative talents of various Birmingham DJs - Scott Bleepz (Panic), Adam Shelton (below), TAK!, Matt Ridding (remake/remodel), Ross T (below), Jack Slack (Slackers Delight, Ping Pong Club), Ollie (Not Cricket) Satori, Kat, Guy Carlos, Dom, Chris. We also borrowed the pen-man ship of mosco people and Birmingham graffiti-artists to create papier-mâché shoes. Regular guests are Leannes pop-up-cut-outs, and ceramic cats have been known to grace our decks. Michael Valentine-west (AKA Twiggy) played live for us at the Rainbow and we took over the Kitchen in the Custard Factory for New Years Eve 2005, showing films and shorts in the Theatre. Mosco is now a regular at the Bulls Head in Moseley with resident DJ Lucie and we plan to do some one-off parties, more art-related stuff and will launch a new web-site soon. We LIKE TO PaRTY, LIsTEN TO ELeCTrO, 80s & SYNtH PoP, BOrrOW ThINGs, EATCAKES, PAPIeR-MACHe, cuT-OUtS.’

10 Lives present The Black Apples + The Ganders +The Solomons + Bugners Eye

The Black Apples: A 3 piece electric blues band, created in 2004 in an old disused pot bank with a ghost…. One door no windows and a concrete roof…. The walls are lined with black plastic and images of the past, the room is dark, cold and damp. The volume is loud fusing old with new…. The apples play when ever and where ever they are asked to play, from backstreet to Main Street, audiences large and small…. The songs are distorted blues maybe from a different time, maybe from a different place, or maybe just distorted…. As an apple is just an apple green, red or black…..

The Ganders: Think Dirty Heavy Blues Rock... that, whether you like it or not will have the hairs on your neck standing. Thunderous lows, screeching highs with belting vocals that will make every bit of you want to move. Shaking the foundations of Birmingham with a powerful, electric, energetic live performance... DEFINATELY makes The Ganders worth a look in.

THE SOLOMONS are a two-piece outfit who formed in the summer of 2006 around the squalid rehearsal rooms of the West Midlands. They tired of squandering their talent in numerous unfulfilling local groups and decided to go it alone playing their first love- bluesy, boozy rock & roll.

Musically pulling influence from out of tune ‘60’s garage, rhythm & blues, Phil Spector soul and the proto-punk pioneers, The Solomons howl the blues like their lives depend on it. JOHN PRESLEY wrestles his ’58 Hofner guitar, scattering layers of noise, drone and subtle delta picking over TOM BEVAN’S Moe Tucker meets John French rhythms.

Lyrically, The Solomons songs are known for portrayals of the seedy side of life with a penchant for stories of heartbreak, inebriation and teenage lust. These vignettes of the low life are delivered through Johns’ whisky soaked and nicotine stained snarl. It is no surprise then that The Solomons have been compared to Tom Waits and ‘Safe as Milk’ era Captain Beefheart by the press.

Having spent their formative years absorbing lo-fi garage and punk, The Solomons have a fiercely independent ethic to match their primal blues stomp, and a reputation as a formidable live act, culminating in headline slots in Birmingham as well as frequent gigs in Liverpool and London.

Bugners Eye: After attempting to emulate the bands that made the biggest impact on the nineties five lads became four, then three, stopped trying so hard and grew a set of knackers, resulting in a simplistic blues driven sound that will knock the froth off your pint.

Venue: The Flapper and Firkin (nr NIA)

Cost: £4
