Acoustic Brew present Luke Jackson + Dan & Rob + Alex Harmon + Oxygen Thief

Luke Jackson: (from his myspace)
I am a young singer song writer and guitarist from Canterbury, Kent. Learned to play the guitar about 4 years ago, started singing soon after and have been writing my own songs since. I love to play live and started first doing open mic nights about 2 years ago. I still do open mics, but have now also been doing lots of proper gigs in all sorts of different venues. At first this was all local, but now play regularly in london and at acoustic venues around the country, so far in Hull and more lined up in norwich,Bury, Portsmouth and birmingham. Last year, and this, I played Lounge on the Farm and other festivals in Dover and Ashford, Festival in the park and Create and full gigs during Broadstairs folk week, where i am playing again this year. Also played at Maverick@Zebra bar in maidstone and hope to be back there soon. New gigs are being added all the time for the next few months so keep an eye on my upcoming shows for latest details. Also getting more interest in my songwriting and 'Rain' was chosen as one of the top 10 songs of the year on the itsafrogslife acoustic podcast show. All the songs on the space are my own compositions and are recorded and mixed by Jim Laslett. Record loads of songs and have made 2 sort of cd's but they don't sound like my voice now!!! We realised that it is best to do 3 to 6 track ep's as these can be done more quickly and represent my current sound, voice and playing better.

Oxygen Thief: (from the myspace)
Oxygen Thief is Barry Dolan - Bristol resident, guitar abuser, and unrepentant rock addict.
Faced with the possibility of a total drought following the gradual demise of my previous band, I decided to branch out into solo acoustic warfare.
Why does the term "acoustic" always bring up the image of some moping "singer-songwriter", gently fingerpicking his way through yet another heartwrenching 3 minutes of emotional torment (in nut crunchingly delicate falsetto of course)?
Why does it always get relegated to background music for folky chats in dimly lit bars?
Why can't it be fun, exciting, and most of all...LOUD?
Why not indeed - together we can bring down the Blunts, Nutinis, and Morrissons (James, not Jim...or the supermarket for that matter...though I do prefer Asda)
2007 was pretty ace, with a few tours around the UK, a show in New York, and gigs supporting Frank Turner, Dave House, and Frank Turner (again), along with some very kind reviews (see below) and a whole bunch of new friends made.
2008 has been "the year of the gig" - 30 down (including supports with Malcolm Middleton, Manchester Orchestra, Chris T-T, and appearances at 2000 Trees and Dot To Dot festivals), and another 20 to go by the end of the year.

Weird-Avant-Acid-Folk

Capsule presents a caravan of raw sound magic from Finland and the USA

Line-up:

KEMIALLISET YSTÄVÄT & AXOLOTL
ES & FURSAXA
ISLAJA, BLEVIN BLECTUM & SAMARA LUBELSKI
DREAM TRIANGLE (TOMUTONTTU & SKATERS)

Curated and produced by NO-FI and [NO.SIGNAL] supported by The Wire magazine to present APPROXIMATELY INFINITE UNIVERSE - A CARAVAN OF RAW SOUND MAGIC FROM FINLAND AND THE US.

Featuring special commissions and unique collaborations from some of the most innovative and exciting acts of Finland’s underground with the superb ISLAJA, the multi-layered KEMIALLISET YSTÄVÄT, the drones of ES and the noise of TOMUNTONTTU (Jan Anderzén) – most represented by the influential and exploratory label FONAL. Each will musically entangle themselves amongst an uncompromising host of Americans, including the home-recorded acid folk of Fursaxa; the MV & EE member SAMARA LUBELSKI, the ‘Terry Riley-fused with Kate Bush’ impossibility of Axolotl, the ‘coal-powered spacecraft from some steampunk parallel universe’ that is BLEVIN BLECTUM and the noise duo from SKATERS.

Each performance a unique and brand new collaboration, each of the acts features a combination of Finnish artists from FONAL, who have invited a US counterpart to collaborate on a composition, highlighting the parallels in strands of the recent evolving trend of ‘weird/avant folk’ between the US West coast and Finland’s northern communities.

The performances will be made of material composed in the months leading up to the tour and worked in 2 days rehearsal. The concerts will take the form of two acts with the 4 groupings rotating during each act.

ES (FI)
ES is the solo recording name of Fonal boss Sami Sänpäkkilä - tagged as 'Experimental Songcycles' by The Wire's David Keenan - and one of the main figures in contemporary Finnish free folk mouvement. Sami is not only a musician but also a renowned filmaker.

FURSAXA (US)
Tara Burke of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania employs voice, guitar, organ, dulcimer, accordion, Casio and more to create her home-recorded acid folk as Fursaxa. Her debut album Mandrake was produced, engineered, and released in Japan by none other than Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple.

ISLAJA (FI)
Islaja is Merja Kokkonen, a young visual artist and musician based in Helsinki, Finland. She has discretely become one of the few figures hiding behind the recent fad of "folk weirdness" whilst being part of a somehow communal move of a "Finnish psychedelia" that has spread its wings within the underground sounds over the last two years.

SAMARA LUBELSKI (US)
Samara is a native New Yorker who grew up in the haze of artist infestation of Soho. Through the time of playing in various groups she has compiled an impressive resume that covers myriad of genres such as her work with the avant/psych/folk outfit of Hall Of Fame into the lair of those bohemian German musos Metabolismus and onto the indie rock interpretations of The Sonora Pine with some serious treks into the world of The Tower Recordings and off world with Jackie O Motherfucker, to name just a few.

BLEVIN BLECTUM (US)
Blevin Blectum is an electronic musician. Recently relocated from the industrial armpit of Oakland, California, to the humid lovecraftian greenery of Providence, Rhode Island, Blevin releases her fourth solo album, GULAR FLUTTER, on an unsuspecting public via the AAGOO label (New York). Blevin is one half of the recently reformed and reunited groundbreaking digital duo Blectum From Blechdom, recipients of the 2001 Ars Electronica Award of Distinction in Digital Musics.

KEMIALLISET YSTÄVÄT (FI)
The name of a recording project of musician Jan Anderzén of Tampere, Finland. Anderzén began recording under the name in 1995 and although he has enlisted numerous musicians over the years, most Kemialliset Ystävät recordings are solo productions. Often labeled as psych folk, his recordings have included such diverse instruments as detuned guitars, mandolins, balalaikas, toys, hand percussion, and samples from recordings by Sun Ra, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Vibracathedral Orchestra.

AXOLOTL (US)
Axolotl is Karl Bauer, classically-trained violinist and a dedicated student of gnosticism, alchemy, astrology, and certain other materialist tendencies in psychology and philosophy. Bauer belongs to a small but potent association of young musicians, who draw upon the gestural economy and textural range of minimalism, and the visceral force of noise, while eschewing fashionable prohibitions against musicality, raw beauty, and thematic complexity.

TOMUTONTTU (FI)
The visual artist and musician Jan Anderzén (1978) is one of the central figures of the Finnish underground, and his band Kemialliset ystävät has gained international popularity among fans of experimental and psychedelic music.

SKATERS (US)
“Staggering low-grade psychedelic murk and splintered free jazz soul” says David Keenan (The Wire). The skaters are from southern California and consist of Spencer Clark and James Ferraro who met in 2002. The duo say that the substance of their music is defined by “the interplay of ideas and the transformation of themselves into characters while playing and while living and using the inner dialogue that comes with cognizing the symbols of the outside world as a ground for the music to stand”. The music for them becomes deeply psychological because they experience “hallucinogenic sensations” while playing. The "thing" they think is a phenomenon can only be experienced through playing.

Acoustic Brew present Ben Pike + Kings of the Heath + Butler Williams + Raina

Ben Pike:
Ben Pike is a singer/songwriter based in Leeds who plays soulful bluesy folk. Drawing heavily on influences such as Kelly Joe Phelps, Nick Drake, John Martyn etc. Ben has forged his own style of bluesy finger picked guitar and a subtle soulful voice. Ben is playing regularly in and around Leeds as well as venturing down to London from time to time.

Butler Williams:

"...BUTLER WILLIAMS...live equation is nothing less than a revelation...their sound is that found at the cutting edge of modern Mancunian acoustica. “Got no job but I got leads..” goes one line almost like a calling card, as Chris Butler and Noel Williams demonstrate that they are purveyors of great vocals and some damn impressive guitar work too. Witty, beautiful and adventurous are terms that you’d expect to find on a dating website, but Butler Williams are literally wearing the T-Shirt. Well not literally, but they do wheel out a mini glockenspiel on “Only A Few” and of course the now famously reported Theremin. There’s a song about getting a good kicking at a Withington Kebab shop but it's sound tracked by a remarkable timbre and cocktail of sounds that conjure up more flavours than a fine red wine; the soundtrack to Tales From The Riverback 2008; Damien Rice on Hathersage Road; Badly Drawn Boy in Tescos; The Smiths if they had been sponsored by Takemine. Just make one up – it doesn’t matter really, as with all good music, the tunes do the talking with “You’re My Star” being just one good example. Ones to watch - and I’ll certainly be doing that again..."

Acoustic Brew present Maydaze + Powder Blue + Ben Clempson + The Floating Island

Powder Blue:

Drunk bass player sees equally drunk singer playing drums at a jam night; turns out she's a much better singer and songwriter than a drummer, gets in touch with past band mates and powder blue is born.

Ben Clempson:
Folk-blues singer-songwriter Ben Clempson was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, in 1977. His childhood saw him surrounded by creative influences with a career in the arts seeming inevitable. An accomplished artist, photographer and sculptor it was, fortunately for us, music that became the focus of Ben’s creative output.
Immersing himself in folk music during his teenage years he developed a distinctive guitar style combining intricate finger picking with slapping and tapping the body of the instrument. Playing his first solo gig at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1998 he has, since then, gone from strength to strength, gigging extensively around the Midlands venues and festivals alongside artists such as Nizlopi. The influence of John Martyn, Richard Thompson and Paul Simon are evident but his style is entirely his own. Ben’s blend of strong melodies, spellbinding technique and infectious rhythms make music that is accessible to fans of all genres.

Blue Nation are doing an acoustic set at The Yardbird – hosted by Jason Pegg!!! (The guy from the telly!!)

Blue Nation:

Neil Murdoch (Vocals / Guitar)

Neil is the main songwriter, guitarist and singer. He aims to always keep things simple with his song writing and the band. He brings ideas to Oli, Paula and Ade then they thrash it out until it is just where they want it! His main influences are The Who, Small Faces, The Beatles, Paul Weller, OCS and many, many more. Likes any guitar as long as it’s a Gibson!
A few years ago during a sound check “Big Mick” sound engineer for Metallica , was heard to say “ where the ****** **** did that skinny kid (Neil) get that great voice from?” We still don’t know…

Paula Keogh (Vocals)

Paula is an accomplished musician and adds these skills to the group to work out the harmonies and the vocal arrangement of the songs. Can play any instrument after about 5mins and has sung Blues, Jazz, show songs and choir you name it she sings it. During a recent studio recording session became known as “one take” due to the quality, accuracy and speed with which she nailed her vocal. Her brother was clearly impressed as he had taken a little longer.

Oli Jefferson (Drums)

Oli is the youngest member of the band, he definitely falls in to the category. “If you’re good enough you are old enough. “ Being the son of a renowned Midland drummer, it was quite obvious drumming would play a big part in his life. From an early age he has been entertaining, having performed with the Royal Ballet in both Birmingham and London, but after an injury ended his dance career, he threw himself heavily into music. His preferred instruments are drums and percussion, although he also plays piano and guitar. Musical influences are the Trevor Burton Band, having watched almost all of their gigs since age 11, Spin Doctors, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Clash, The Who, Inme and many more!!

Ade Derbyshire (Bass Guitar)

Ade is the most recent member of the band, joining in Jan 2007. He was at a BN gig when Neil asked the audience if they knew any Bass Guitarists as BN were looking for one. Ade had a word and after a few rehearsals and an audition gig he was offered the slot.
Ade considers himself an easy going musician who never takes things too seriously. He has been playing guitar for many years and became a full time Bass Guitarist with his last band Jaygo. Because of his guitar background his bass riffs really compliment Neil’s rhythm / lead work. Not surprisingly Ade’s influences 5ac are guitar based Indie bands like The Smiths, Idlewild, Manics and the lovely unsung heroes of the mid 90’s, Gene.

Humbucker presents The Bad Pennies + Davee Mach + Burning Thirteen + When Autumn Falls

The Bad Pennies:

Born from the ashes of 2 of the most successful bands to hail from the Derbyshire hills the most anticipated new band of 2008, featuring members of the Written Apology and Polite Notice, THE BAD PENNIES. A funky combination of 70s classic rock and new age experimental prog.

Davee Mach:

In the dark corner of a back alley pub, two long time pissheads, overcome by succession of alcoholic beverages stumbled upon the brilliant idea to resurrect grimey ’70s rock. Thus formed Davee Mach, named after an Irish trucker. Originally named "The Greasy Dildos", but the name would not stick. A thuggish moody 3 piece, powered by heavy riffs, wannabe daydreams, and large quantities of alcomohol, and so it begins.... Due to different artistic opinions it s was..ok we’ll be honest, our lead singer is "bone idol", (that’s not a bad billy idol tribute band) he’s just a lazy git, and wanted another guitarist to relive the pressure of his "2 whole jobs" in the band, and so along popped luke, who’s last name I cant remember, so for now, we’ll call him luke "skunky". After a moment of maddness we found out skunky could play drums "well", and since has had a cushy sit down job,.. that’s right 2 lazy 70’s style rockers and an arsenal of rock n’ roll triumph’s, ...its just a shame were so laid back were horizontal! A short time after this, that oh so common idea of gigin’ came into play, at which point our first bassist quit and the drugged up sex toy of a weird blonde bimbo,.. whom was befriended to a ginger love crazed, ac/dc obsessed rocker who was knocking boots with the lead singer decided to take the bass up, and play the whole gig.... without even knowing the songs,.. To turn this hafty rock n’ roll band into the 8th wonder of the world, we then stuck luke on geeetar, and brought in the 4th person stupid enough to befriend us, dan.."TAMPAX DAN" a double bass kicking, hobit looking, ego maniac with the charm and good grace of a rhino in heat. NOW WHOM DARE TRY AND STOP US ... seriously,.. no one try , were loverly really

When Autumn Falls:
The band started back in early 2004 after various name changes, band line-ups and styles we each grew into our own and fell upon what is now When Autumn Falls. The current line-up has stuck since January 2006 and has never been stronger since Ryan took to the stage.

We take influences from bands such as Thrice, Alexisonfire, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Taking Back Sunday to name just a few. Live we blend a sound of raw energy and power with a presence to match.

Acoustic Brew presents Ivan Campo + Blue Radio, Bernard Payne + One Sixth of Tommy

Ivan Campo: (from his myspace)
Ivan Campo, the super Spaniard with the big hair, shares his name - with a nu-folk ensemble who will take you on a journey through the mysteries of their minds. Hitchcock and The Beatles’ White Album are just some of Ivan Campo’s preoccupations. Characterised by a playful suspense, their songs are as likely to be about the unsolved death of Alexander Litvinenko as they are about love and loss. Based in the Northwest of England, Ivan Campo produce interweaving melodies combined with a musical unpredictability influenced by artists as varied as Devendra Banhart, Nick Harper and Arcade Fire. The effect is a unique style infused with echoes of films, snatched memories and a healthy sense of the absurd. Playing live regularly, Ivan Campo have been spotted in pubs, clubs, venues, kitchens, festivals, ballrooms & basements, all over the UK, & have shared stages with Marrisa Nadler, Thomas Denver Jonsson, Jeff Lewis, Misty's Big Adventure, Jay Jay Pistolet, Dufus, The Courteeners, Jim Noir, Shack, & The Pale Fountains. Their first song, Bandit (visit ivancampo.net), was produced in 2003, and they have since recorded 9 seven track E.P's. Meanwhile, their self-directed videos echo the gentle yet unexpected pace of their sounds.
“A unique and mildly unsettling sound, like David Lynch circa Blue Velvet. Can't recommend them enough!” Yorkie - Space
"they are pretty good in a refined, literary kind of way." Simon Hattenstone - The Guardian
"Mixing a strong sense of the traditional singer-songwriter genre, this three-piece made their audience feel a little like we had just stumbled into the best jam session ever." Meg - manchestermusic.co.uk

Acoustic Brew present The No Time Wasters + Lo Fi Lung + Yeadon and the Good, Bad and the Ugly.

Lo Fi Lung:
Lo-Fi Lung was formed in August 2007 by two Midlands musicians: Chris The Activist and Dew. Together they have developed each others material as well as writing their own original tracks, creating their own eclectic mix of electro/acoustica.

The diverse nature of their influences and broad musical experience has culminated into what has been described as “a broadly ambient acoustic driven sound.” Their lyrics are founded on social/cultural themes, influenced by natural and environmental ideals.

They have already played at many varied venues around the country whilst developing their style to fit different moods and atmospheres. From full on electronic sets to totally acoustic sets and improvised ambient jams, their music has always been well received.

In 2008 Lo-Fi Lung intend to maintain the momentum of their live success and continue recording and developing their sound. They aim to play at gigs and festivals around the country, and welcome invitations to 'come and play' If you are organising an event, festival or gig please contact them.

Acoustic Brew present Kings of the Heath + Jonny Hands

Kings of the Heath:
A chance meeting of John and Rich, former members of Stolen Honey and See Saw, whilst on their way to two different children's birthday parties led to the formation of the band. We were joined and then left by Matt Sterlini on Guitar, Patch Kite on drums and Ben Harpwood on harmonica. We lost them to Air Traffic Control, Cricket and Opera respectively. Now with Pete Hill on bass, we're a cool, acoustic combo.

Jonny Hands:
Hi, i'm Jonny Hands, an acoustic artist from Birmingham. I have an EP available if anyone would like one (for free) give me a message. I will be playing gigs around the Midlands over the summer and i am always writing and recording new songs, so keep an eye (and an ear) out if you like what you hear. I hope you enjoy listening :)

Arc Promotions present Shoot Panda!?

With an emphasis placed on embodying their youth and energy in their sound, Shoot, Panda!? attempt to break musical boundaries with their hybrid of indie-esque, dancable drumming, electronic-influenced guitar tone and pounding bass; an originality beyond their years. With songs with topics ranging from lust to youth subcultures, careful detail is paid to lyrical content as much as musical content. With scathing attacks on the 'chav' and 'scene'-based 'cultures' so prevelent in modern Britain, these boys make no secret of their roots.
With influences ranging from the electro, hardcore and indie genres (among countless others), something different, perhaps surprising is guaranteed from Shoot, Panda!?; believe that!

Spoken Word

Henry Rollins

Pop Culture Renaissance Man- If Henry Rollins were a question on a multiple-choice quiz, the correct answer would be “D. All of the above.” Best known to some as the frenetic frontman for punk rock legends Black Flag and later the Rollins Band, and to others for his sharp-tongued spoken performances, Henry Rollins is an actor and an author. He’s a businessman and a philanthropist. He’s a GRAMMY-nominated singer and a GRAMMY-winning spoken word artist. He’s an ad pitchman, a USO veteran, a world traveler and a TV host. And above all else, he’s a tireless performer, averaging more than 100 shows a year for the past two and a half decades.

Bohemian Jukebox presents Richard Batsford + The Lazy Lizards + Pony Chair Back + Tom Peel

“A lovely little affair, mostly centring around singer-songwriters but with other stuff too. (Some quite surprising other things at times.) I liked the vibe, and indeed the value - four quid gets you four musical acts and a chit that lets you get a shot of absinthe for a pound. You can’t say fairer than that.” (russl.wordpress.com)

Richard Batsford
"His music displays amazing beauty in repetition and minimalism. Definitely a performer to keep your eyes on."
Evening Mail

"Each piece brimmed with an inherent sense of poignancy ... Batsford created a spectral ambience which made him stand out from other composers. Utterly spell-binding."
Birmingham Post

The Lazy Lizards
Impassioned and powerfully arranged songs with a strong sense of social consciousness. There are shades of the 1960’s psychedelia of Arthur Lee’s Love within ‘em.

Pony Chair Black
Emotionally-charged stories deceptively presented in pop wrapping. Catchy tunes that tell tales of lives spent living, loving, losing, despairing and, just occasionally, winning.

Tom Peel
Ivor Culter-esque up-tempo, uplifting folk-rock blues from an excitable and instantly likable fellow.
"This is the new Bob Dylan, re-born and relocated to Birmingham. Unique, witty, intelligent and a must see."

Humbucker presents The Chase + Half Day Closing + Reprobate + Before I Explode

The Chase:
“y'alright, we're the Chase.
We’re a Birmingham based band who love doing what we do, and are passionate about it, its not just a hobby... its what we want to do.
Its 2008 and we hope to make it a good'n, its started off well for us, booked up for several gigs in just the first 2 months of the year, lets hope the rest of the year follows the same pattern.”

Reprobate:

REPROBATE are a five piece band from Tamworth. We have been around since December '04. We are a band with many influences combining powerful riffs, grinding bass lines, authoritative drumming and vocals with attitude.

Reviews:
A great set from Tamworth based Reprobate saw them voted through to the second round by the other bands. A heavy, guitar driven rock sound they made great use of dark basslines, hurtling solos and front man Richard’s rock-drone vocals. Memorable tracks with interesting lyrics and inventive structures, at times they were almost experimental, and while their music was always grand, it never seemed overly indulgent. For such young lads they have great ability and stage presence, and gave a tight but energetic performance

Before I Explode:

Before I Explode are Sophie and Jak

They write electric music. They met in a queue.
It was a very long queue. They were at the front.
and whilst queuing in this queue discovered they were in a band.
They write our music over msn. Most of the year we live a billion miles away from each other.

Acoustic Brew presents Babajack + Bruno Gallone + Richard McGuire + Cathal Keenan + Rob Lane

Bruno Gallone:

“I was born in July 1972. That means I was your age, when I should have been doing what I'm now doing at my age. Being ancient has its advantages, though: for instance, young whippersnappers can provide amusement by taking my decrepitude a bit too far, and by asking me if I saw Hendrix live. This allows for the imagination to kick in, and I can describe being at that Bank Holiday 1967 Spalding all-dayer with Hendrix, Cream, Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band, Syd’s Floyd and Zoot Money all on the bill for a quid.

The first record ever bought for me was London Bridge is Falling Down by Pinky and Perky. From that moment (circa 1975), a star was born. Riding hypnotically around and around the manhole cover in the back yard, on my tricycle with the Mary Mungo and Midge sticker on the seat, I wore my Bay City Rollers tartan dungarees while munching on my Dalek Exterminator ice lolly. In such a state of serenity, I dreamed of being a rock godhead, like Orinioco from The Wombles, or Rory from Animal Kwackers.

At the age of fifteen, I started playing guitar. In those days I was very harsh and loud – not much has changed – and I used to like playing my electric through an old Watkins Copicat and various assorted pedals, and making aeroplane and UFO noises at the neighbours walking past. I had an idea of forming a band called Oasis, but my bassist Baz said that was a crap name. I suggested Nirvana instead, and he retorted that we’d never make it with a name like Nirvana. I think we settled on All Night Orgy and the Conservative Candidates for a while. Our band meetings consisted of the usual mantra (“Gotta get a drummer, man”). We never did get a drummer.

When I was eighteen – the day Maggie Thatcher resigned – I got my twelve string acoustic Sigma, Ziggy, and a DADGAD-tuned odyssey began. That’s when I got into writing songs masseeeeeve seriouuuuuussss. Or not. Once I hit the age of about twenty-four or five, it was Kevin Duffy from Whiskey Before Breakfast who insisted I take my writing and singing a bit less lightly, and it was local Cambridge saxophonist and musical luminary Dom “The Hat” Latter who got me performing at places such as the now defunct Boat Race, supporting The Levellers, Ezio, and a few others.

I jacked in the songwriting and singing lark again for a few years, to get some OU degrees – I never was much good at singing and being sensible at the same time – but once I escaped through the other end of spouting Lukacs and Althusser and deconstructing sweet wrappers, I returned to making tunes.

So, there's the meteoric rise to semi-obscurity, for you. I’ve been gigging a fair bit, this past year or two, before it’s all too late. I was even on Tom Robinson's Introducing Old Blokes Who Have Been Around Forever (But Have Just Discovered The Internet) show, the other week. I like a nice PA system, so if you have one, please feel free to book me, and I will come to you. I’ve even recorded an album, and when I’ve the dosh to release it, you will have it. If you like me, let me know. You’ll make an old man very happy.”

Between them they’ve exhibited artwork at the ICA in London, appeared on the BBC Politics show, supported the Rakes at Birmingham Academy, made 20 euros busking outside the Pompidou Centre in Paris, performed in Chamberlain Square, Birmingham, gained degrees in Graphic Design at Camberwell College, University of the Arts, London, Illustration and a Masters in Black Theology at UCE, had a brief conversation with Alice Cooper about the Beach Boys and burned their forehead on a carpet whilst trying to breakdance.

Bohemian Jukebox presents Lewis Garland and The Kett Rebellion + Miss Martin + Abie Budgen + Marieanne + Catalina Knight

Lewis Garland and The Kett Rebellion:
Fresh from Glastonbury, Lewis Garland and the Kett Rebellion have been highly acclaimed for their energetic yet intimate performances. The group’s folk tinged sound provides the perfect complement to Lewis’s intricate, often caustic, wordplay.

Miss Martin:
Forget the cockney chirp of Kate Nash, Lily Allen and all that-This is the future of female Indie-Pop: Surreal narratives and imagery with shades of Homegenic-era Bjork, and Radiohead-esque chord progressions.

Abie Budgen:
Rambling dusty guitar and scratchy ol’ magic delta spirits. Raggedy hobo stories and beautiful crazy noises from far away places.

Marieanne

Catalina Knight:
Blues meets Bohemia, with of vocal range reminiscent of Billie Holiday.

Humbucker presents Lucky 27’s + Rock Dog Project + Framed + Dance of Starlings

Lucky 27’s:
Here's a review of the Lucky 27’s by Sandman Magazine:

The Island – Birmingham 22 Feb08

On a Friday night in the heart of Birmingham, one band tried capture the true essence of Rock “n” Roll. I attended this gig not knowing anything about the Lucky 27’s. I did not know anything about their line up or more importantly their sound. I was ready to be impressed...and I was. A four piece band (drums, bass and two guitars) who really strived to bring a modern Rock “n” Roll sound through an old battered sound system. It’s nice to see a young group of musicians respecting that 60’s sound and keeping their sound close to the original. A mixture of guitar and harmonica solo’s thrown in along the way meant they captured that 60’s vibe everybody loves.
