Bunka present Rebekah + Matt Tilley + Leon Garcia

REBEKAH:

Rebekah’s love affair with electronic music began at the tender age of 17, going out and listening to legends such as Dave Clarke, Derrick Carter, Richie Hawtin and Billy Nasty at Birmingham’s legendary Que Club. This gave Rebekah her first taste into the world of deep house and techno.

In the six years that she has been Djing professionally, Rebekah has toured every inch of the globe, performing at some of the most exclusive parties and rocking clubs in the world. On her travels she has DJ’d in countries such as South Africa, Australia, Central America, Brazil, Italy, Russia, Dubai, Hong Kong and Thailand. She was featured on MTV for a party at Jianpula, Malta which was broadcasted to the whole of Europe! She is also no stranger to house music haven Ibiza where she has played on the terrace at Space as well as at El Divino.

Being on the circuit over the last few year’s means that Rebekah has played at some of the coolest nights and venues in the UK. These include regular performances at clubs such as Sankeys in Manchester and Turnmills in London as well as having Shindig, The Egg, the Cross, the Key, Canvas and the Honey Club performances under her belt.

Rebekah’s current UK commitments include a residency at popular underground venue; The Custard Factory in Birmingham where she performs regularly alongside world class acts such as Josh Wink, Steve Lawler, Andrew Weatherall, Eric Prydz, Switch, Paul Woolford, Lottie and Tania Vulcano to name a few.

Rebekah has also become a regular at some of the worlds most recognised and established festivals! Donning her welly’s, Rebekah has performed in front of massive audiences at UK festivals such as Escape into the Park, Wakestock and Global Gathering where she has performed on the Circo Loco stage in 2007 and Cocoon arena in 2008. Further a field, she is a regular at Serbia’s Exit festival having played on the techno stage for two consecutive years alongside acts such as Martin Landsky and Argy and will be making another appearance in 2009…. Testament to the fact that promoters always rebook Rebekah after seeing her perform live!

One million listeners tuned in to hear one of Rebekah’s biggest achievements to date, a Radio 1 interview by the notorious Fergie on a peak time Saturday evening. After he played her tech house, minimal and techno mix it was no surprise when Notion magazine approached Rebekah to do a three page spread on her as one of the UK’S hottest up and coming DJ’s. The press interest doesn’t stop there, M8 had their eye on Rebekah giving her a front cover and interview, pinning her down as a key breakthrough DJ.

In the past couple of years, more focus has been applied to the studio side of things working closely with established producers and fellow DJ’s Simon Baker, Deepgroove and Leaim Sullivan. Her first release “Toad in a Hole” came out in April 2007 on German label Criminal Records and has had growing support from the likes of Steve Lawler, Gabriel Ananda, Monoroom and Oliver Klein. Over the summer this track became one of Ibiza’s underground anthems finding its way onto Amnesia’s Underground 7 compilation which is a huge achievement for Rebekah especially for a first release.

February 2008 saw the release of a second solo EP on Criminal Records which contained the tracks Neo and Freakonomics. This E.P gained support from Funk d’Void, Yousef, Greg Vickers, Oliver Koletzki, Anderson Noise and Mistress de Funk who regularly played Neo on her BBC Radio 1 show. Loving the release so much a second airplay of the second track Freakonomics went out for her 2008 Christmas special.

In recent months on the DJ front, Rebekah has performed at some amazing parties such as playing in front of 2,000 people for Sven Vaths Cocoon - Sound of the Eighth Music tour at the legendary Que Club in Birmingham in May 2008 which was cited as the stand out electronic music event in the Midlands of the year. She was also asked to play the Global Gathering festival again in 2008 for a second year running this time in the Cocoon arena alongside Sven Vath, Adam Beyer, Loco Dice and Dubfire where she played a 3 hour warm up set for some of the most influential artists on the scene!

In 2008, Rebekah was approached by the prestigious Awakenings based in Holland and performed alongside Gaiser, Tony Rohr and Alexi Delano at Factory 10, Rotterdam…. One of her stand out gigs of the year! Rebekah also attended the WMC in 2008 for a consecutive year playing a rooftop terrace party above the Sony Building with Miss Nine; taking her sound of tech house and techno to an almost progressive crowd as well as fitting in a performance at the Back to Basics Miami party with Simon Baker. She was cited by Back to Basics promoter Dave Beer as the stand out DJ from the evening!

Alongside these Rebekah has played at Qube in Rome and Frau Marleen in Torre del Lago, impressing the owners so much she has been made a bi-monthly resident. She also fitted in an exclusive Fashion TV party in Geneva bringing the underground sounds of minimal and techno to high class galmour models and local socialites!

With the international side of things picking up there was still time to play the UK for In Bed with Space at Sankeys, Eclectricity at the Custard Factory Birmingham, Glitch in Cleethorpes, Junk in Southampton, Dlate at Egg alongside Jona and Asuca in Loughbrough. Additionally to this Rebekah has been asked to be an official monthly resident for Lost Souls:Techno Club at Public Life Saturday daytime parties already playing alongside Drumcode’s Perc and Oliver Ho with other regular guests such as Chris Liebing.

After a stint on the Gadget show Rebekah met up with the Pacemaker team trying out the new hand held mixing console and fell in love with the concept straight away. Another brief encounter in Miami at WMC has lead to Rebekah becoming an official ambassador of the Pacemaker. Showcasing the revolutionary product at parties, clubs and BBQ’s all over the UK!

In the next few months Rebekah will be playing at the second Cocoon party in Birmingham supporting Josh Wink, a second gig at Glitch in Cleethorpes, Ibiza Underground in Brixton, London, monthly residency for In Bed with Space in London and Sankeys in Manchester. Her continuing Birmingham residency for Eclectricity at the Custard Factory sees performances alongside Andrew Weatherall and Terry Francis in the diary as well as continuing her monthly dates at Lost Souls:Techno Club in London.

On the production side of things a new remix on Phobic Records is due out in October by Sona Sound - In the Studio, with early support from Mistress de Funk and Smokin Jo. Rebekah’s next solo release is Sonar Eclipse due out on CS Records in November with many other productions and remixes in the pipeline!

It goes without saying that the future is bright and diary packed for this lady of techno and minimal and her peers are starting to take note and give her the respect she deserves…. Anyone that has seen her play out live know first hand that there are no gimmicks or clichés about this female DJ…. just unadulterated raw talent and a passion for underground house and techno.
